The inaugural Wiltshire Sports Awards were held at the Corn Exchange, Devizes on Friday night. This is the first time this event, sponsored by Wiltshire and Swindon Sport and supported by Newsquest, has been held and was a sell out. The event celebrated sporting achievement across a wide range of events in Wiltshire.
There were a mixture of individual and tram awards and the organisers received hundreds of entries. Each event had a shortlist of three finalists and TeamBath had three finalists in various categories. Tom Gale was on the list for Sportsman of the year, Polly Maton was in the Para Sportsperson of the year and Di Viles was up for the Unsung Hero award.
Tom, as expected won, Polly and I didn’t but it was a great evening and it made you realise how much sporting talent exists in a small county like Wiltshire. There was a tasty buffet and guest of honour was former world snooker champion Denis Taylor who was on great form with his jokes and anecdotes.
Further details and photos can be found at #WiltsSA17 or on the Newsquest website and full report will be in next week’s Gazette and Herald and Wiltshire Times.
