Midland Indoor Championships (Part 1) 11th February 2018
The Midland Indoor Championships took place at the Birmingham High Performance Centre at the weekend and four Team Bath AC Athletes made the long journey to compete in the short sprints and hurdles. The format of the competition had been reduced this year from the usual event at the Barclaycard Arena due to a significant increase in the hire costs of the venue, but the field of athletes was still very high quality with World Champions Sophie Hahn and local athlete Sophie Kamlish also competing.
Ebony Hammond was the lone Team Bath hurdler in the U15 girls 60m hurdles, and ran an impressive personal best of 9.82s to achieve 2nd place and a place in the final where she ran 10.25s for 6th place.
Next up were the short sprints with Imogen Leakey (U17), Femi Akinbobola (U17), Ebony Hammond (U15) and Joel Mattacks (U17) competing. Ebony, Femi and Imogen made it through the first round of heats with performances of 8.65s (3rd), 7.44s (2nd) and 8.16 (2nd) respectively. Ebony and Imogen both running personal bests. Joel Mattacks also ran a personal best of 8.06s.
In the Semi-finals Femi 7.36 (4th) and Imogen 8.17s (3rd) made it through to the final with Ebony running 8.76s (5th). In the U17W final Imogen Leakey ran a personal best of 8.12s to finish 5th and Femi Akinbobola running 7.48s in the U17M final to finish 6th.
