Youth Development League 2018 – Upper Age Groups U17 & U20
TEAM AVON
Dear Athlete,
The Youth Development League Upper Age Group is an inter-club team competition for U17 and U20 athletes, though U17 athletes can also take part as U20s. As you probably know five of the clubs within the Avon area (Bristol & West, Mendip, North Somerset, Team Bath, and Yate & District) have joined together to form a composite team called TEAM AVON. Last season, we were division winners. Our aim this year is to reach the NATIONAL FINAL. Team Avon will compete against the following teams: Cardiff AC, Cheltenham Harriers, Team DC (Devon & Cornwall), Swansea Harriers, and West Wales.
Athletes must be first claim members of their clubs to be eligible to compete for Team Avon.
The three league matches for 2018 are as follows:
29 th APRIL – SWANSEA
27 th MAY CARDIFF
1 st July – EXETER
PREMIER MIDLANDS REGIONAL FINAL 29 th July – Kip Keino Stadium, Stoke Gifford.
Plus the National Final on 9 th September (if we do well enough) and a chance to compete in Europe.
We believe that we can certainly make the area final. We have the athletic talent in Avon to win our division but we must have the commitment of you as athletes and the support of your coaches and parents to prioritise this league over other events. You have to compete in one of the league matches to be considered for the regional and national finals.
TEAM SELECTION: Jim Strudwick (women) & Sandra Woodman (men) select the team two weeks in advance of the competition. The top two ranked athletes are selected to score but there is some opportunity to compete as a guest as well.
It is VITAL that you complete the availability form and return it with your current PBs for your preferred events. We cannot select you if you do not tell us when you are available. Team selections will be published by email, and athletes are expected to confirm receipt to the Team Managers.

Our first match is at Swansea so we want to get off to a good start. We will travel by coach to Match 1. Please make sure you return your availability form in good time to be considered for team selection.
